What a lovely present to find under the Christmas tree! This rare Surrey Machinists 'The Invincible' has early pattern tangent spokes in bronze flanges. What we call two
spokes is in fact one long wire. It has patent hollow rims front and
rear. Very nice bicycle, with an interesting after market spring to support
the saddle. The bell is far too modern for this bike.
But this ordinary has interesting details and lines and is certainly one of the most graceful examples of the penny farthing.
I am not sure about the year this 52 inch bicycle was built. I guess around 1885 - but It could be a few years younger.
